Going Home

InuYasha could sense the upset pouring off of her, the tenseness, the slight salt tang of threatening tears as the reality of what they had done swept over her.  He could feel her collapsing as the enormity of it all hit her like an aftershock, leaving her trembling.

He wrapped his arms around her.  “It’s ok, Kagome.  It’s over,” he whispered as he nuzzled the shell of her ear.  “You did it.  We can go home now.”

She looked up at him, her blue-gray eyes reflecting deep exhaustion.  She let herself be nestled in InuYasha’s strong arm, swathed in the red warmth of his sleeve.

“Okay, Tessaiga, get us out of here!” he said to the sword.   It pulsed in his hands.  “Meidou Zangetsuha!” he called out, cutting where the sword directed.

“I wonder where we’ll end up at,” Kagome said softly as she closed her eyes, resting her face against the strength of his chest.

They stepped through the hole.
