My muse went on vacation
and  took all my best thoughts
and all my favorite phrases,
and the bunnies with their plots,
she ran off with all the fluff stuff,
she ran off with the hero's sword--
she left me sitting here alone,
bemused and rather bored.

My muse went on vacation
To a sunny foreign clime,
and left me sitting here alone
without a word to rhyme,
She's laying on a beach somewhere
without a hint of snow,
and leaving me with winter's chill
and no place left to go.

My muse went on vacation -
I hope she's coming back
With a healthy tan, a rosy glow
and some fresh stuff to attack--
I miss her interaction,
how she drove me crazy mad,
how I teased her for the things she said
that came out rather bad.

But since my muse went on vacation
my writing's getting stale,
no smexy dancing dreams to write,
my words seem set on fail.
I promise not to tease her
if she'll only let me write -
O hurry home, bright redhaired girl,
or kiss career goodnight!
There are times I swear the ghost of Shel Silverstein slips into my brain and makes me do this sort of stuff....

Quite the humor filled take on one of the most important assets to all writers, My Muse Went On Vacation, as noted by our suggester: "it can be quite harrowing when our muses decide they need a vacation. This poem, with its turn of phrase and flowing rhymes, puts a humorous spin on the emotions we go through when left to our own devises without the help of our muses." =knittingknots does this and more with style. I can relate to these lines: "she [Muse] left me sitting here alone,/bemused and rather bored." What does smexy mean?

Smexy? Internet slang for sexy. Comes from smex, which was an intensification, maybe playfully, for sex. In the old days (like 2004,) it got invented to slip past language filters in forums. Pretty common in fangirl circles, especially. I personally just like the sound of it. In my mind it means romantic/not necessarily full-fledged porn sexiness, but that's probably just me.

Light, lyrical, with a lovely flow of verse that sparkles rather than chokes with rhyme. From one writer to another, well done and thank you!

Oh yeah. It's the learning to get through that feeling that makes hard core writers. When it's bad, I mock it! LOL.

I loved it. It was exactly what I've felt many times, which is probably why I liked it so much. It's very easy to relate to.

This would sound great as a song!
I could imagine something like "Florence + the machine - my boy builds coffins" as the background music and someone whispering the text.
Thanks for enlighten my day :>

I grinned the entire time I read this wonderful poem simply because of how true it is to what writers block feels like. I love this poem, it's definitely worth the DD. Keep up the great work. If this is how you write with your muse on vacation I'd love to see your writing after she returns.

They're in the middle of broadcasting the conclusion of the series in Japan. Shonen Sunday's website and Hulu and a few other places are showing them week by week.

Most of my Inu fic is set after the end of the manga.

Oh do I know that feeling-Inspiration and muses are hard to keep a hold of-especially when they ditch you, grab the sunblock and run off to Miami just when you need them the most.

I love the poem-makes a great representation of creativity blocks.

I am so glad that this was featured. This poem is awesome. Next time the ghost of Shel pops into your head, you must thank him for getting you to write this poem as I am unable to thank him myself. I know everyone else has said it before, but this is so true and yet remains so upbeat and happy. Even if none of your other stuff is like this (feeling wise), I'm still going to go browse your gallery...After I fave this. >////<

My muse is on vacation. Either that or my current fandom has killed her and taken her place, because he demands to be drawn, and won't take no for an answer.
Anyways, this was a really nice read. I liked it a lot. It was entertaining! :3
